1st grade classes help students learn to be more independent and are taught to take personal responsibility for their own space and work. The foundational skills learned in Kindergarten begin to be utilized with greater fluency. Students begin to read, not as a skill, but for pleasure. Throughout the school year, they begin to take the math skills learned and apply them to more difficult abstract concepts. Under the guidance of their teacher, 1st grade students begin to blossom with confidence not only academically but with a greater understanding of their Christian identity, that they were formed for a purpose and are loved by God.  ​
